about

Construct is based on a passage from China Mieville's first book set in the world of Bas Lag; "Perdido Street Station." Unlike the three other pieces in the suite, this piece is not narrated, and is more loosely based on Mieville's text. The piece describes the cleaning construct owned by inventor Isaac Grimnebulin, as it undergoes a transformation from being a broken machine with a virus, to a thinking and sentient steam, clockwork and program-card powered computer.
It features Alon Ilsar on his spacial-gestural instrument the AirSticks, and Ellen Kirkwood on trumpet
